We occasionally get requests for new and unusual projects. I thought I would share these with you to give you and idea of the range of work we undertake. Copy computer images onto photographic 35mm slide film: This was a very unusual request. We received a call asking to quote for computer images to be transferred to slide film. This was so the images could be projected with a standard projector onto walls for a display. This was not our standard remit - but we aim to please. We received the pictures on disc and then set up one of our Apple's to display the pictures as brightly as possible. The pictures were edited to ensure that there was adequate contrast and definition. We took our 35mm cameras and chose the Olympus OM-10, leaving aside our Nikons. The decision was based on which had the easiest metering. The Olympus was set up on a tripod and using manual metering and remote shutter we set the photos for the required time. After some delays with processing, we received the pictures back. To our relief the pictures were fine. The delay in processing has been sorted and we could now reproduce this service quite quickly should it ever be required again. Medical images for museum archive: We were asked to look at some slides which were taken many years ago. This project turned out to be an enormous challenge. Initially we thought the straightforward scans would be adequate. 4000 dpi saved as TIFF files. Not so. The initial scans showed colour 'bleeding' in the images and we were not sure that the colours represented the originals. We repeated scans using Digital ROC and ICE but still the pictures were not right. We used different scanners and different software until we arrived at an image that was as close as possible to the original. Historical images for museum archive: This project was welcome for the aircraft pictures. There was an enormous colour loss, mould and dust. Working carefully with the images we restored the colour reduced the effects of dust and mould, finally delivering very high quality images as TIFF files. Micro Crystal Scape Imaging: This fascinating project came from a friend wanting to promote his microphotographs. The high quality images were saved to disc and the we used these to produce limited edition canvas prints. The website can be accessed here microcrystalscape. There are sample images below.
My Favourite project: One of my customers had largely lost his collection of photos through no fault of his own. All he had left were some negatives. We took the negatives and restored many of them to replace a large part of his collection.
