Frequently Asked Questions:

What scanning option is right for me?

For home viewing on a TV or a computer the lower resolutions make the image 'blocky'. We recommend 3200 to 4000 dpi for your slides so that you have the best possible picture from our equipment and this can be displayed on High Resolution TVs in superb quality. We now also save images and movies on Blu-ray discs.

What is the difference between Jpeg and TIFF and what would be best for me?

Jpeg is a standard used for image compression. At Saturn-Films (1969) we apply Jpeg compression to the vast majority of our scans. This results in file sizes of between 1.5 and 4.5 Mb. These file sizes are manageable by most PC's and DVD players. TIFF, RAW, BMP, .psd etc.  files are much larger and can cause equipment to 'freeze' if it cannot handle the data. These formats tend to be used by professionals and semi-professionals so they can manipulate their own images.

What do I get in your standard pack?

We send your slides, negatives, photos and video back to you together with discs containing edited images and unedited images. The discs are returned with our standard cover but on request we will put a picture cover at no extra cost. The discs are supplied in plastic sleeves. In the event of a large order with several discs we provide a disc wallet.

What do I get if I ask for a gift package

Gift packages are bespoke orders and dealt with on an individual basis. We supply a wallet containing the discs. One disc contains a slide show together with a music soundtrack (if required), the other disc(s) contains edited and unedited images. Please discuss these orders with us or put your requirements in writing and we will respond with a written quotation or phone you to clarify your order.
